Carpool Karaoke, Malaysian style: KDU students recommend!

Ever had that song stuck in your brain for days, weeks and even for months? Or the one particular song that you secretly serenade whilst screaming at the top of our lungs in your car on the way to KDU University. It usually proceeded with the statement, “THIS IS MY JAM!!!” coupled with the weird fuzzy warm feelings in your heart and mind.  Feeling guilty yet?

In no particular order, these are the 5 songs that we carpool karaoke to on the way to KDU University:

“Happy” by Pharrell Williams

There are so many reasons why ‘Happy’ was the best-selling song of 2014, let me break down the deeds for you. Repetition is key in this song, there are about 56 times, the uplifting title was repeated throughout the whole song, making 62% of the song to be filled with its memorable chorus. This soul smacking and jovial hit takes the cake from every student – well done Pharrell, for being a ‘lazy’ champion! So, if you need a dose of happiness, then tune this song in, while you are stuck on the NPE.

“Closer” by The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey

It’s clear to say that ‘Closer’ is a song that all students can relate to, whether you are crazily in love or just taking a break from the love shack. Behind the song’s monumental sound and thundering piano chords lies a classic story of the song’s protagonists, a guy and girl four years out from a short-lived romance, now re-encountering each other in a hotel bar. Fast pace to the ending, both lovers got back together and the credits read ‘Happy Ending’. Not to mention, this song is listed on the cringe-worthy playlist in KDU University, because once played, couples will be flowering the college floors or students will start belting out to the melodies in their car while stuck in a jam on the way to uni.

“Uptown funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars

This song has been used in everything in every place of the university – from the drama club, through singing club and then, the dance club in KDU. What’s the great big deal about it, anyway?

Well, this song breathes Tempo, Tension and Groove. Creating a combination of funk, pop, and a whole lot of ass shaking and leg swinging.  It was once said that this song brings everyone closer and creates a commotion that cannot be reckoned with cause once it starts, you won’t be able to control yourself. So, grab your buddies and your enemies to dance along as grooving usurps moving into the heart.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” By Queen

Carpooling with your friends while stuck in the crazy jam on the way to KDU University. Then, there is only one song to hear! Being dubbed the ‘Greatest Song Ever’ in 1975 and it still holds the title. It is one of the strangest, most inspired and least-understood songs in the history of rock, no other songs can create a momentum and jumps from power ballad to light opera to heavy opera to hard rock and back to power ballad again before the ending of the song. The trickery that amuses everyone about this song is the way in which people try singing it in a Capella style, which can result in either a hilarious or gut-wrenching moment to the passengers listening to you in your car. If you want something that has a dramatic element, then this song is your cup of tea.

“Rolling in the deep” by Adele

There is no argument that this song is a power vacuum, from its hair-raising vocals to its upbeat bass playing in the background. Fun fact about this song is that it was proclaimed the biggest crossover after charting the billboards for rock, pop/adult, R&B/hip-hop, dance and Latin. Rolling in the deep starts with a strong high note and gives the heartbroken listeners the rallying cry of “We could’ve had it all”. If that is not emotional enough for you, then you should begin soul-searching with all of Adele’s songs. Don’t stress yourself on the LDP highway when you are off to your Uni, just listen to Adele’s roaring cries.
